The LVAtm (Layered Voice Analysis) TechnologyLVA is Nemesysco's
core technology adapted to meet the needs of various
security-related activities, such as formal police investigations,
security clearances, secured area access control, intelligence
source questioning, and hostage negotiation LVA technology enables a better understanding of your subject’s mental state and emotional makeup at a given moment by detecting the emotional content of his or her speech when responding to questions. The technology identifies various types of stress levels, cognitive processes, and emotional reactions that are reflected in the properties of his or her voice. This information provides insights into the way he or she thinks, what troubles him, what excites him, what portions of his speech he is uncertain about, what questions require more of his attention, and what areas appear to be sensitive issues for the speaker. In addition, the technology enables the user
to explore several levels of conscious and unconscious brain activities (thoughts and feelings),
and by doing so, expose additional layers of information that would otherwise be unavailable. This
information can save crucial time during truth-detection
investigation activities. Layered Voice Analysis is not a "Voice Stress" analysis technology, nor does it use any previously known method for detecting voice stress. As such, LVA does not perform "micro-tremors" analysis in the voice. LVA uses a patented and unique technology to detect “brain activity traces” using the voice as a medium. By utilizing a wide range spectrum analysis to detect minute involuntary changes in the speech waveform itself, LVA can detect anomalies in brain activity and classify them in terms of stress, excitement, deception, and varying emotional states, accordingly. The Human
Speaking Mechanism
The human speaking mechanism is one of the most
complicated procedures in the human body due to the number of muscles and physical apparatus involved,
and the ways in which they need to be synchronized. When a person speaks, air is pushed upward from the lungs into the vocal cords. Consequently, the vocal cords vibrate at a specific frequency
and produce sound.
The air continues to flow up toward the mouth where it is manipulated by the tongue, teeth and lips to
produce sound streams that we recognize as words or phrases. The brain plays a leading
role by orchestrating the entire process and monitoring what is said to ensure that the sound you emit is
what your brain intended, and is at the right volume to be heard by the intended listener.
As a result of this constant cerebral monitoring,
every "event" that passes through the brain will leave its traces on the speech flow. LVA Technology
ignores the content of what your subject is saying and the language being used, and
instead focuses on the
brain activity changes only. In other words, the “how” of what is said is of importance, not the “what.”
LVA and Lie
Detection
Professionals in the field of lie detection know that there is no "true" lie detector, as lying is not a unified set of feelings that can be measured. Lying is a result of a deep logical process that is executed with a particular intention. One might lie to protect oneself from harm, while another might lie to gain profit, or even just to make a joke. Due to this variety in motivation and intention, there is no fixed set of characteristics (physiological or psychological) that differentiate lies from truth. However, LVA is capable of detecting the intention behind the lie, and by doing so can lead you to identifying and revealing the lie itself. Security Use vs.
Personal Use
Security users,
depending on their specific task, need a tool that will provide the exact amount of
information that is relevant for the case in
question. Any data that is not strictly related can obscure what is
essential. Once a specific piece of data is
found to be relevant and deceptive, a determination is made
regarding whether further exploration is needed. LVA
technology was specifically designed for use with this methodological
approach. While Nemesysco’s
personal-use products
provide both detailed and generalized data, LVA has a dynamic range of
sensitivities that enable you to zero-in on those emotional indications
that are absolutely relevant. In addition, LVA provides you with tools
that allow you to explore any identified piece of information in
depth. LVA
technology can be utilized both in real-time (for general overview
of any subject/case/suspect/witness), and in offline mode (for more
in-depth exploration), using recorded data from any source. The
technology can also be
utilized as a “Voice Polygraph” for the analysis of a series of
yes/no questions. LVA
Analysis Process LVA has two basic formulas
comprised of unique signal-processing algorithms that
extract more than 120 emotional parameters from each voice
segment. These are further classified into nine
major categories of basic emotions. Depending on the goal of the
analysis, up to eight “final analysis” formulas can also be
applied to the emotional parameter data. These include: Lie stress analysis, Arousal level,
Attention level, Deception patterns match, and additional methods
for veracity assessments. This data can be further processed by statistical learning algorithms to predict the probability of deceptive or fraudulent
intention in a sentence or for any other psychological analysis. LVA products
The
LVA technology is currently utilized in all of Nemesysco’s security
products. The products include: LVA 6.50, TiPi 6.40, GK1 and SCA1.
