Voice Analysis: The Tool of choice for your Pre-Employment Selection and Screening needs as opposed to Graphology

By Dr. Albert de Vries

When a company sets out to hire new managerial personnel, they deserve something better than an astrology chart. When you opt for graphology as your tool of  choice, that is what you get. Layer Voice Analysis (LVA) gives you a complete report of your prospective employee in terms of his over-all veracity, his emotional state of being and is a scientifically reliable credibility assessment tool.

One of the most important things for a perspective employer to know is whether the various facts, accomplishments, etc. that appear on the applicant’s CV are true and accurate. This is something that a graphology examination cannot give you. Voice analysis (LVA) can and does so in a  convincing manner. Using cognitive interviewing techniques, the CV can be reviewed with the applicant either via the telephone or  in a face-to-face interview.  The truth becomes immediately apparent. This form of examination also provides the employer with an over-all veracity profile, in addition to the credibility assessment requested.  Questions concerning the applicant’s education, former places of employment, achievements, and goals are asked.  All these areas are then scored for their truthfulness as well as their emotional “content” and accompanying stress.  Voice, like  handwriting, is a manifestation of cerebral activity. When an individual knows he is being deceitful, and is somewhat uncomfortable with it, this form of cognitive stress is identified by voice analysis. Since the changes in the voice are minute and often inaudible, the individual has difficulty in identifying these variables and subsequently in controlling them. This sort of information together with an over-all credibility assessment score is included in the final report that the employer receives.

What more does an employer or search firm want?

  • The cost factor is important. In most cases, an applicant analysis costs 50% less than a graphology work-up.
  • The expedience factor also comes into play. Voice analysis reports are sent within 24 hours of receipt of the raw data.
  • The level of accuracy is important. Voice analysis (LVA) focuses in those areas that the employer deems to be important with accuracy rates of 90% and higher.
  • Personality profiles are important and employers want to know what makes their applicant “tick”. Here both graphology and voice analysis provide answers. However, voice analysis monitors thinking patterns, coping capabilities, etc. in real-time.

So why do so many companies rely on graphology when making a decision to hire an executive/manager?  Tradition and the lack of awareness that there more effective  pre-employment screening and selection tools available are but two reasons for choosing graphology. There is no doubt that when one considers the cost of executive /manager training, mistakes can be very costly. Incorporating LVA technology into your selection procedure will reduce the number of false-positive errors significantly. Graphology has been used for many years in the pre-employment selection procedure. One of the main reasons for choosing this particular tool has been its total non-invasive character as well as being portrayed as less threatening to potential job seekers than the polygraph, for example. While this is probably true, the LVA process is not only non-invasive but it is completely not threatening because the applicant is completely unaware that the process is taking place.

Unfortunately, voice analysis has been overlooked because it is a relative neophyte in the field of screening, selection and as a credibility assessment tool. These are, in most instances, the needs and desires of the potential employer. Layered Voice Analysis (L.V.A.) has no competitor in the field of credibility assessment, identifying emotions, analyzing an applicant’s thought processes and generating veracity profiles

The scientific basis for the validity of a voice analysis protocol has been show by various independent agencies throughout the world. These references and articles will be forwarded to all who request them. The results of Voice analysis (LVA) are over 90% accurate (on-line) and higher through the in-depth analysis (off-line).
