Why using voice analysis at all?

Our brain is closely monitoring our speaking process, as it is one of the most complex muscular activities the human body can perform. Due to this close supervision, the speech flow might be slowed a little or fasten a little, become more or less intense, and its frequency structure might become scattered or shifted. It's true that in many cases we can control the way we sound, but this is also a part of the brain involvement, trying to produce the "output" as the brain wanted it sound. This brains activity is also reflected in the speech waveform. But the "L.V.A" technology doesn't care about the way your subject "sounds", in a mater of fact, our technology try to ignore completely all the audible information we can hear (what we say, how we say it, and how we personally sound). We do that to provide a clean indication of "unique" appearances in the voice that can not be picked up by our naked ear.

But the "Micro-tremors" phenomenon was never proven to be reliable!

Although this is not a question, we hear that a lot. This maybe the point to explain in a very simple manner: NON of our products use Micro-Tremors analysis (like P.S.E or V.S.A). Microtremors analysis scans frequencies between 8-12 Hz. Most of the microphones and ALL telephone lines do not transmit or record this frequency range at all. Nemesysco "L.V.A" technology uses a Wide-Spectrum analysis, making use of whatever spectrum of frequencies it receives. This feature is what makes the "L.V.A" technology one its kind, and allows the detection of so many different emotions.

What can I learn from my subject's voice?

By measuring and clustering the unique appearances in the voice we can tell many things, such as the level of "Adrenaline" in the blood (or other natural drugs), how much both parts of the brain agrees between themselves, is there an internal conflict in the brain, does the brain go into Fight-Or-Flight (Stress) mode, did the subject want to tell us what he just did, how concentrated he is and many more.

When facing the law everybody gets stressed. So what?

True. And indeed, so what? Our unique technology doesn't measure only stress (the result of the Fight-Or-Flight syndrome), but tries to understand the complete emotional structure (excitement, pain, fear, cognitive activity and more) in each sentence your subject says. Then, the overall analysis algorithm evaluates the minor differences in each vocal segment from the others to reach a decision (both textual and graphical).

What are the differences between the regular "Sense" technology and the security "L.V.A" technology?

"Sense" technology is used mostly in our semi-professional and low-end products, designed for various commercial and personal uses, and is intended for free-conversation that is not intimidating in any way. The "L.V.A" technology must go beyond the free conversation pattern. In any investigation, may it be a polygraph examination or an ordinary questioning session, the subject knows beforehand if and where he plans to lie. Professionals will also attempt to use Counter-Measures to avoid being detected if they plan to lie. The "L.V.A" technology takes all these parameters into account, including the natural stress real subjects feel in any investigation.

Who tested the "L.V.A" technology and where?

Various Governments, Security forces and Universities tested the previous version of "L.V.A" (the "TrusterPro" Technology and product) around the world. The researches so far tried to measure the technology's ability to detect lies and to reach an automated decision for the tested subjects. Those tests indicate that the technology can reach a very high accuracy level (some tests indicated it is even more reliable than the traditional Polygraph) and assist the investigator to reach his final analysis, but in no way can be properly used by untrained operators. Unfortunately, non of these governments work for us, and most of their research results as well as their identity are usually confidential. We respect their privacy, and we will do the same with your privacy requests as a client. Even though, one report made by the US Air-Force Rome Laboratories can be found in our researches page. These researches also showed a remarkable difference between laboratory cases (about 70% accuracy rate) and "real subject" criminal tests (over 90%). Nemesysco welcomes any type of research on its technologies and will assist the researchers with whatever needed.

Why should I care how the subject is feeling or thinking?

Many times in life, the picture is not black and white. Not long ago, a president was recorded denying "sexual relations" with a certain lady. Today, when every thing is known - was he lying? By analyzing his speech and monitoring his emotions, we noticed a "Low Lie Stress" together with high embarrassment - indicating guilty knowledge. (Meaning: he knew he did something wrong, but found the way to put it in words that will not make him lie). Many of us do that every day, and so does your subjects. By monitoring the way your subjects feel, you will reach more leads, fine-tune your questions and get to the truth faster. Knowing, for example, that your subject invents his stories as he goes makes your job to get his confession much easier.

Can the technology be considered as a voice-polygraph?

Although one of TiPi's mode of operation is used as a voice "lie detector", we prefer to think about our technology as an investigation focus tool. Polygraphs have a long history, and their reliability in the hands of professionals is proven. We suggest to use our technology for what it was designed to do, i.e. monitor and analyze emotions - and provide new leads in the beginning of the investigation, thus making you work more efficient.

Shouldn't all I care about is if my subject is lying or not?

No. Lies have a "tricky" nature, and the truth is always in the eyes of the speaker. We had a case in South-Africa where a man accused of man-slaughter was almost found innocent simply because he still didn't think that the guy he killed was human… once he showed extreme emotional reaction to the charges and further investigated he was recorded saying "This is not a man! It is a dog!"... The leads for your case are hidden in your subject's emotions. God - is always in the small details.

What is a "Conversation Atmosphere"?

When the L.V.A technology is used to analyze one conversation, an emotional baseline profile of the subject is built based on his recorded emotional parameters, and the rest of the vocal segments are then compared to it to produce the analysis. The emotional profile is typically changing due to the circumstances and the subject's general emotion structure for that day. When we compare different complete conversations one to another, we try to compare their extended "emotion free" profile to learn HOW was the subject feeling in general, and to look for anomalistic behavior.

What are the vocal parameters the "L.V.A" technology uses?

We use our own mathematical algorithm to evaluate the PRESENCE of relatively high frequencies, relatively low frequencies (in number of ranges), and changes in their rate of occurrence. We do the same operation for a number of layers in the voice, providing us with a unique view of different emotions in different levels of self-awareness. The human brain is indeed a remarkable system.
